The attempt was part of an annual worldwide initiative called ‘NaNoWriMo’ – National Novel-Writing Month, which brings together tens of thousands of writers. In November 2024, we will be tackling the challenge again, as an independent, Hastings-based group: HaNoNoYes! About the speakers:

Jane Metcalfe
has worked in the creative arts for most of her adult life as a classical singer, voice coach, writer and arts workshop facilitator. In the writing field she has written poems, community plays, short stories, faction and fiction. She is currently expanding the first draft of the dystopian novel she wrote for the NaNoWriMo 50,000-words-in-a-month project, as well as her memoir: My Life Through Thirty-Three Dwellings.

Tim Barlow
is an amateur writer and poet who has a day job as a law librarian. He usually writes realist stories and poems set in the modern day. He has a Masters degree (with distinction) in Creative Writing from Hull University. He is Derbyshire born and bred, and now lives in Hastings. He is a committee member of Hastings Writers Group and regularly performs at local poetry events, including a recent tour of eight East Sussex libraries as support to Henry Normal.
